The Ivory Menagerie Information
The Gina Bachauer International Piano Foundation has had an extremely colorful concert season, and pianist Hsiang Tu's presentation of his brilliantly conceived The Ivory Menagerie program in Salt Lake City was the perfect way to round things out.
The 22 pieces Tu gave all had some animal theme and ranged in length from just over a minute to ten minutes. The show moved at a nice clip, making it suitable for an audience that may have included younger viewers. There was lots of humorous discussion about the works and the animals to brighten the mood. Tu has researched, creating an ideal setting to show how the arts can complement a STEM curriculum. His piano skills are certainly on par with the other world-class performers who have played the Bachauer Piano Series this season.
