The Hi Jivers Information
The Hi-Jivers are a 4-piece Rock n' Roll/Rhythm and blues band who play unique, high-energy songs that pay homage to the sounds of the '50s and '60s while pushing musical boundaries. Dawna Zahn, the lead singer, is a powerful soul singer who can effortlessly channel the spirits of her favorite blues legends like Howlin' Wolf and Big Mama Thornton.
Her husband, Austin John, plays guitar with the skill of a veteran blues player and the bite of a seasoned rock and roller. They have already enjoyed performing in several cities in the United States and numerous European countries.
In 2023, the band was honored with an Ameripolitan Music Award, and they've since been featured in such publications as Vintage Guitar, Vintage Rock, and Blue Suede News. Contemporary musicians, including JD Mcpherson, Nikki Hill, GA-20, Imelda May, the Delta Bombers, Big Sandy & the Fly-Rite Boys, and many more, have been likened to them.
After relocating to Nashville from Central New York in September 2014, Austin John and Dawna Zahn had one goal: to start a band in the style of their favorite Rhythm & Blues and Rock and Roll performers from the '50s and '60s. At the start of 2015, they linked up with Hank Miles, an upright bass player, and Aaron Mlasko, a Seattle drummer, who had recently relocated to Nashville.
