This musical play starts by showing Lyndon’s triumphant election, and just three years into his term, he made an astonishing decision not to run for the second term.
This era would shape America as we know it today. It was at this time that significant socio-economic developments like Civil Rights Movements were fledging, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert F. Kennedy got assassinated. It was at this time that the US obliterated Vietnam in war and other magnificent social programs that set the path of the country to what it is now.
The first act of The Great Society covers the period from Johnson’s first State of the Union address in January 1965. It goes all the way to include Johnson’s signing of the Voting Rights Act later in August the same year.
