The Drifters Information
The Drifters are an R&B, soul, and doo-wop band that originated from NYC. The group was initially founded as a backing group for Clyde McPhatter, the lead tenor of Billy Ward and His Dominoes. The current lineup of The Drifters consists of Charlie Thomas, Louis Bailey, Stephen Brown, Jerome Manning, and Jeff Hall.
The Drifters witnessed a few golden eras in their career; the early 1950s, the 1960s, and the early 1970s. The first Drifters, founded by Clyde McPhatter, was inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame under its original name, “The Drifters.” The second Drifters group featuring Ben E. King was also inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame by the name “Ben E. King and The Drifters.”
The Drifters released many notable studio albums, including Clyde McPhatter & the Drifters, Greatest Hits, Save the Last Dance for Me, and The Drifters Golden Hits.
