The Besnard Lakes Information
The Besnard Lakes is a Canadian indie rock band. The group's current lineup consists of Robbie MacArthur, Sheenah Ko, Richard White, Kevin Laing, Olga Goreas, and Jace Lasek. The name of the group is derived from Besnard Lake in central-north Saskatchewan. The band's second album, the Besnard Lakes Are the Dark Horse, was recorded at singer Lasek's Breakglass Studios with assistance from Stars, The Dears, and Godspeed You! Black Emperor/Silver Mt. Zion.
It was a 2007 Polaris Music Prize nominee. The Besnard Lakes Are the Dark Horse includes many songs with recordings from shortwave radio stations, which became well-known through records like The Conet Project. The Besnard Lakes Are the Roaring Night, Jagjaguwar's third studio album, was released on March 9, 2010. On February 9, 2010, a 12-inch record including the album tracks "Albatross" and "Four Long Lines" was made available. The Polaris Music Prize 2010 shortlist included this CD as a contender.
The band composed their debut film score for Mark Ruffalo's an actor/director movie Sympathy for Delicious. Additionally, they composed and performed the music for the Welcome to Pine Point web documentary by the National Film Board of Canada. An old friend from high school and co-creator of the website, Mike Simons, approached Lasek, which led to the collaboration.
