Austin, Texas's Barton Hills Choir, directed by Gavin Tabone, performs covers of iconic rock songs by the Grateful Dead and other bands. Guitarist Don "El Cento" Cento, bassist Aaron "Hair Doctor" Dembe, and drummer Jake "Mr. Bubbles" Perlman are just a few of the experienced musicians who perform with the Choir.
They play everything from Broadway show tunes like "Mary Poppins" to tracks by Wilco, Muse, The Flaming Lips, Foo Fighters, and Belle & Sebastian, as well as classics by the likes of the Beatles, Elvis, David Bowie, the Grateful Dead, and the Beach Boys. They have played in New York, Chicago, Denver, Portland (Maine), and Dallas and play every year at the Austin City Limits Music Festival.
They've performed alongside artists like Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne, Stuart Murdoch of Belle & Sebastian, and singing prodigy Nakia. When Roger Waters of Pink Floyd played "The Wall" at the Frank Erwin Center, they were there to back him up.
