The Avalanches Information
The Avalanches is an Australian electronic music band formed in 1997 in Melbourne. The current lineup of the group consists of Andy Szekeres (keyboards, organ, piano, turntables, and synthesizer), Tony Di Blasi (keyboards, bass, production, backing vocals, synthesizer, and theremin), and Robbie Chater (drums, bass, guitar, choir conductor, production, mixing, and keyboards).
They immediately rose to notoriety after performing support for Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. In September 1997, Trifekta Records released the debut song "Rock City." They released El Producto, a seven-track extended play on Steve Pavlovic's Wondergram Records, in December.
The Avalanches had been working on their debut album since mid-1998, initially titled Pablo's Cruise. They finished mixing it in Melbourne's Sing Sing Studios in February 2000. Since I Left You was released in Melbourne in November 2000, with a boat cruise party on board the Victoria Star in Port Phillip Bay and coverage by The Face and other UK media. The band has since won six Australian Dance Music Awards.
The debut track from their second album, "Frankie Sinatra," was premiered on Australian radio station Triple J on June 2, 2016. The album's title, Wildflower, was unveiled the following day. Chater and Di Blasi were co-producers, and it was released the following month.
Wildflower got six further nominations at the 2016 ARIA Music Awards, including Album of the Year, Best Dance Release, and Best Group; Producer of the Year for Chater and Di Blasi; Engineer of the Year for Chater and Espie; and Best Cover Art for Lost Art (Chater).
