The All-American Boys Chorus Information
The All-American Boys Chorus was founded in 1970 as a small church choir in Orange County, California, and has since developed into a non-profit, a non-denominational chorus that tours abroad and encourages the growth of creativity and leadership in more than 100 boys annually. Wesley Martin, based in Santa Ana, California, is in charge of the Chorus' artistic direction. The Chorus draws young people from 26 Southern California cities with various socioeconomic, cultural, and religious backgrounds. Programs have a nominal tuition fee, but no kid has been turned away due to financial necessity.
The Chorus's approach advances participants through various cognitive developmental stages, changing them from inexperienced singers to seasoned performers and developing leadership qualities through peer-to-peer mentoring. All choristers take part in music instruction after school and on the weekends with rehearsals at the Santa Ana campus. They also sing, record, go on concert tours around the country and abroad, and attend an annual week-long summer camp.
The average chorister stays in the program for four years. However, some students continue by joining the graduate chorus, working as part-time staff, or serving as interns. All four-hour Saturday rehearsals include breaks, leisure, game time, music education, and vocal instruction.
