Scott, who lives and works in Los Angeles, is unafraid of the truth. Her gritty intonation and soulful but tender vocals combine with her folk-influenced singer-songwriter melodies to expose a truth hiding in plain sight. Her greatest strength is her openness to being hurt or rejected, but she is also “really just trying to have a nice time,” in her own words.
As an adolescent, Scott cut her teeth in the music business with her band in Baltimore. Still, she eventually gave up on music because she felt it was inauthentic to pursue a career in music after experiencing such early success. Soon after, Taylor Emily enrolled at UCLA to study psychology, and it was there that she decided to give the annual student music challenge Spring Sing a shot “because my friend told me to,” she recalls. She was so self-conscious that she came up with the appellation “Temme Scott,” a combination of her first and middle names and her father’s surname.
Scott spent her final year abroad in Buenos Aires, where she became involved in the local indie music scene and gave her first solo performances at various cafes. Following her return to Los Angeles, she rediscovers the thrill of performing live, “this time more honestly,” and resumes her career. These days, Scott approaches the Los Angeles music community with the same lightheartedness as if she were walking into a gathering of old friends.
