Taylor Mac Information
Taylor Mac (August 24, 1973) is an American actor, producer, director, performance artist, singer, and songwriter. Mac is from Laguna Beach, California, and was raised in Stockton though he moved to New York in 1994. He was a student at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, and after graduation, Mac started to work as an actor. His specialties are Cabaret, pop music, theater, and musical theater. Some of his first plays are The Hot Month (1999), The Levee (2000), and The Face of Liberalism (2003). His work is popular for fighting against conformity and categorization.
Mac has performed his work at New York City's Lincoln Center, the Sydney Opera House, American Repertory Theatre, the Public Theater, Stockholm's Södra Theatern, the Spoleto Festival, and many other venues. He toured Europe with the plays The Young Ladies Of and The Be(A)st of Taylor Mac. He also created and hosted "Live Patriot Acts: Patriots Gone Wiiiiildd!" which is a political skit during the Republican National Convention in 2004.
Mac performed a 24-Decade History of Popular Music with musical director/arranger Matt Ray that covers popular music in the United States from 1776 to 2016. Gary, A Sequel to Titus Andronicus, was Mac's first Broadway play in 2019. A few of the notable bibliographies by Mac include The Holy Virgin Mary of Our Time, Peace, Mornings, The Dying Sentimentalist, The Lily's Revenge, and many more.
Mac has earned a long list of honor and awards such as Drama League Award (2019), MacArthur Genius Grant (2017), Finalist for Pulitzer Prize for Drama (2017), Herb Alpert Award in the Arts (2015), Rockefeller MAP Grant (3-time winner), Creative Capital Award, though the list goes on.
