Tabanka Djaz Information
As a band, Tabanka Djaz dates back to 1986. Three of the original members were the Cabral brothers: Micas, Zé Carlos, and Juvenal. The original fivesome also included Aguinaldo de Pina and Rui Silva. In January of 1990, they released their self-titled debut album. The album "Tabanka" from 1996 was certified platinum. Tabanka was nominated for a Ngwomo Africa Music Award for Tabanka Djaz in 1997.
Tabanka Djaz was asked to join Brazilian musician Martinho da Vila's "Lusofonia" project. The album Feeling by Tabanka Djaz, released in 2002, featured Martinho da Vila. Tony Dudu, a guitarist from Guinea, contributed to the album. The album Feeling was played in the African disco B. Leza in Lisbon, Portugal, where it sold tens of thousands of CDs.
The song "All the Senses" by Tabanka Djaz appeared on the album Africa: 50 Years of Music - 1960/2010. Afterwards, Silence was released in December 2013 by Tabanka Djaz. After more than a decade, they finally put out an album. Tabanka Djaz's 25-year career was honored in After the Silence.
