Sweet Billy Pilgrim is a band that originated from Aylesbury, England. This genre-spanning group comprises singer and guitarist Jana Carpenter, bassist/banjo player Anthony Bishop, drummer/percussionist Alistair Hamer and guitarist and singer Tim Elsenburg. The band’s music is classified as progressive rock, folk, alternative rock, pop, art rock, prog, and folktronica.
Sweet Billy Pilgrim was founded in 2003 and named after the main character in Slaughterhouse 5, a book by Kurt Vonnegut. Starting off, the new group faced many rejections from independent and major label records. The band members decided to buy a Power Book, installed Logic, and began recording themselves. “Experience” was the first release by the band and was distributed amongst fans. It was followed by an EP entitled Stars Spill Out of Cups, released via their label named Luxor Purchase. The EP consisted of three songs - “God In The Details,” “Stars Spill Out of Cups,” and “Atlantis.”
“Forget to Breathe” was another recording by Sweet Billy Pilgrim. In 2005, the band released We Just Did What Happened and No One Came. It was a success and earned four awards from Mojo Magazine. Some of the other follow up discographies by the band include Twice Born Men 2009, Crown and Treaty 2012, Motorcade Amnesiacs 2015, and Wapentak 2018. A few hit singles by the group are “Coloma Blues,” “Just Above Midtown,” and “Future Perfect Tense.” Sweet Billy Pilgrim has worked with Wonderland Avenue, K-Scope, Samadhi Sound, and Deco Audio Records.
