Sun June Information
Sun June is an American indie pop band. The current lineup consists of Stephen Salisbury (guitar), Sarah Schultz (drums), Justin Harris (bass), Michael Bain (guitar), and Laura Colwell (vocals). Years, Sun June's debut full-length album was released in 2018 on Keeled Scales. The group revealed plans for their second full-length album in October 2020. Through Keeled Scales and Run for Cover, the band published its album Somewhere in 2021.
The swaying, cloud-covered reflections of Sun June started in the late 2010s as a side project for Austin, Texas, filmmakers. On Years in 2018, they made their quiet, twang-infused indie rock debut. Following in 2021 was their second album, the more intricately orchestrated Somewhere.
Singer Laura Colwell and guitarist Stephen Salisbury originally met in Austin while working as editorial staff members for Terrence Malick's movie Song to Song. At the time, both had just graduated from institutions in the Northeast. Led guitarist Michael Bain, bassist Justin Harris, and drummer Sarah Schultz created Sun June after getting ideas from the city's vibrant music scene, where instruments were always close by. Years, their murky debut album was recorded live to tape with co-producer Evan Kasper and released via Keeled Scales in 2018. In 2019, they released Younger; an EP made up of Years' B-sides and demos.
