Stilian Kirov Information
Stilian Kirov (January 24, 1984) is a Bulgarian-American conductor. He is also director of music of the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra, Symphony in C (orchestra), and Bakersfield Symphony. Kirov was previously an associate conductor of the Memphis Symphony and Seattle Symphony. He completed his graduation from The Juilliard School in orchestral conducting. Kirov later studied under James DePriest at the school. He also holds a master’s degree in conducting from the Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris.
Several engagement highlights are associated with Kirov, including guest performances with some notable symphonies of West Virginia, South Bend, Kalamazoo, and Chautauqua. He also appeared regularly with the Pacific Northwest Ballet in Seattle as a guest conductor. Kirov has worked with worldwide projects like Victoria Symphony/British Columbia, the Musical Olympus International Festival in St. Petersburg, the Zagreb Philharmonic, Thuringen Philharmonic, State Hermitage Orchestra/St. Petersburg, Sofia Philharmonic, Orchestre Colonne/Paris, Orchestra of Colors/Athens, Leopolis Chamber Orchestra/Ukraine, and the Minas Gerais Philharmonic.
Kirov was an assistant conductor to Bernard Haitink with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra during the 2013-2014 seasons. He has also been engaged with Stephane Deneve as a cover conductor. In 2018, Kirov received an award for the Career Assistance Award of the Solti Foundation U.S. In 2017, he was awarded the first prize in the “Debut Berlin” Concert Competition.
