Steve Poltz (February 19, 1960) is a Canadian-American guitarist, singer, and songwriter. He is from Halifax, Nova Scotia, although he grew up in San Diego, California. Poltz attended the University of San Diego and earned a political science degree. His music is folk-rock, indie-rock, and pop-rock. Poltz is a founding member of the indie-rock band The Rugburns. He collaborated with singer Jewel on many songs, such as the 1996 single “You Were Meant for Me.” This song reached number 2 in the US. After Poltz met guitarist Robert Driscoll, the two of them founded The Rugburns. He often performs acoustic-only “good old-fashioned sing-along” shows as a solo artist.
Steve Poltz frequently opened for Jewel on tours aside from co-writing songs. He also appeared in her music video for the song previously mentioned. One Left Shoe was the first solo album by Poltz that came out in 1998 via Mercury Records. Later on, he founded his own company, 98 Pounder Records, and released Chinese Vacation, five years later in 2003.
