Steve Earle Information
Stephen Fain Earle (January 17, 1955) is an American singer-songwriter. He sings country, rock, and folk music. His debut extended play (EP) came out in 1982, marking the beginning of his career as a Nashville-based songwriter. Earle first gained widespread attention with his 1986 debut album Guitar Town, whose title track reached number seven on Billboard's Hot Country list. He has released twenty additional studio albums since then and won three Grammys.
Among Earle's film and TV appearances, two of HBO's most lauded series, Treme and The Wire, featured him in recurring roles. Among his other works are a play, a collection of short tales, and a novel. Earle has regularly collaborated with Justin Townes Earle, a singer-songwriter, as Justin is his father.
The 2020 play Coal Country, which is based on the 2010 West Virginia mining tragedy that killed 29 men, was musically directed by Earle. He received nominations for the Lucille Lortel and Drama Desk awards for his contributions to the score. His upcoming 2020 album, Ghosts of West Virginia, has music from the play. Earle has stated that he will compose the music for the 2023 film Tender Mercies.
