Steve Dorff Information
Steve Dorff (April 21, 1949) is an American composer and songwriter. He was born in New York City. As a songwriter, Dorff has collaborated with a wide range of artists, penning songs such as Clay Walker's "Hypnotize the Moon" and "My Heart Will Never Know" and George Strait's "The Man in Love with You" and "I Cross My Heart," among many more. He has also written the show's theme music for Spenser: For Hire, Murphy Brown, The Singing Bee, and Just the Ten of Us, among others.
In addition, Dorff collaborated with Larry Herbstritt, Harry Lloyd, and Gloria Sklerov on the song "I Just Fall in Love Again." Anne Murray's version of "I Just Fall in Love Again," which had been recorded by The Carpenters but never released as a single, reached No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 that year. The theme song "As Long As We Got Each Other" from the hit family comedy Growing Pains was composed by Steve Dorff, with lyrics by John Bettis. For the second time, he teamed with Bettis on a musical based on the life of singer Josephine Baker.
Dorff oversaw the music for Pure Country (1992) and its sequel, Pure Country 2: The Gift (2010). In addition to composing the theme music for the 2009 CMT resurrection of The Singing Bee, he has also served as the show's bandleader since then. Three Grammys and five Emmys are among the honors for which Dorff has been nominated. In 2018, he was officially admitted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
