The South Texas Symphonic Orchestra (STXSO) has emerged as one of San Antonio's finest professional-level orchestras. The 2017-formed STXSO is committed to presenting world-class symphonic music. In 2020, STXSO was chosen as a finalist in the American Prize Competition - community orchestra division.
The orchestra has a deep commitment to teaching through music. Using the power of live-stream streaming, STXSO brings symphonic concerts to thousands of children in Bexar county and across Texas at no cost to the schools. The orchestra welcomes musicians from any background - healthcare professionals, attorneys, retirees, music educators, students, business owners - any trained musician with a love for music and a passion for performing with an orchestra.
Each musician is hired through an audition process that mirrors professional orchestras in the United States. STXSO is a member of the Texas Association of Symphony Orchestras and the League of American Orchestras. The National Endowment for the Arts, the Texas Commission on the Arts, private businesses, and individual donors have all supported STXSO. STXSO consists completely of volunteers. Our drive comes from a desire to share our enthusiasm for music by presenting the best works ever composed.
