South Carolina Stingrays Information
The South Carolina Stingrays are a pro ice hockey team of the minor league founded in 1993. The team is based in North Charleston, South Carolina, and plays in the South Division of the ECHL's Eastern Conference. North Charleston Coliseum is the team's home venue, whereas The Carolina Ice Palace serves as a practice facility and backup arena for the franchise. The Stingrays are under the ownership of Todd Halloran (majority) and the Zucker family (minority). Ryan Blair is the head coach of the team. Since 1995, the team has been owned by a conglomerate of local business owners. The current affiliates of the franchise are Washington Capitals (NHL) and Hershey Bears (AHL).
The Stingrays are said to be the first professional ice hockey team ever established in South Carolina. It remains the oldest continuously operational ECHL franchise oldest continuously operational ECHL franchise. The official mascot of the franchise is Cool Ray, a stingray. Navy blue, red, white, and silver are the theme jersey colors of the team.
The South Carolina Stingrays have finished with the best ECHL record once and are famous for qualifying every playoff single except one. The team is tied with the Alaska Aces and the Hampton Roads Admirals for the most league championship records. The franchise also won 5 Conference Championships and 3 Kelly Cups (1997, 2001, 2009).
