Sons of the Pioneers Information
The Sons of the Pioneers is one of the United States' earliest Western singing bands that deal in the country and western genres. The current lineup of The Sons of the Pioneers consists of Tommy Nallie (vocals, bass), Ken Lattimore (vocals, fiddle), Roy ("Dusty") Rogers Jr. (vocals, MC), Paul Elliott (fiddle), John Fullerton (vocals, guitar), and Chuck Ervin (bass, vocals). The band has successfully remained one of the longest-surviving country music vocal groups of the current era. The group was founded in 1933 and was previously known as the Pioneer Trio.
The fame of the Sons of the Pioneers had extended beyond the Los Angeles area by the summer of 1934. In1934, the Sons made their first commercial recording after signing a contract with the newly founded Decca label. The band's initial discographies include the songs "Tumbling Tumbleweeds" and "The Blue Juniata."
Some of the notable albums by the Sons of the Pioneers are Cowboy Hymns and Spirituals (1952), How Great Thou Art (1957), Cool Water (RCA Victor, 1960), Trail Dust (1963), Sons of the Pioneers Best (1964), Legends of the West (1965), Campfire Favorites (1967), Let's Go West Again (1981), Sunset on the Range (Pair, 1990), and Our Best to You (1999).
The Sons of the Pioneers also appeared in 87 films, television series, and several movie shorts. The band earned many honors and awards throughout its career, including the 1971 Western Heritage Wrangler Award, 1976 Gene Autry Award, 1976 Hollywood Walk of Fame Award, 1984 New Brunswick Country Music Hall of Fame Award, 1986 Grammy Award, and the 2003 Golden Boot Award.
