The punk band Snapped Ankles hails from the United Kingdom. The band created live improvisations by slicing together films from the 1960s, sequencing them, and enhancing them with synthesizers. The band formed in East London in 2011. The group's debut song, "True Ecology (Shit Everywhere)," was released by Ears Have Eyes recordings in the winter of 2012. Next up was 2015's "I Want My Minutes Back," originally released on the white label before making its way to The Leaf Label in 2017.
The band's debut album, Come Play the Trees, was published in September 2017, and their 12-inch EP, The Best Light Is The Last Light, was released in June 2017 on The Leaf Label. Violations by Snapped Ankles, an EP of cover songs, was published for Record Store Day 2018. It featured music by The Fugs, Can, Joey Beltram, and The Comateens and was published on vinyl in a limited run.
This year saw the release of Stunning Luxury, the second album from The Leaf Label. It has been described as a "10-song Gang of Four style takedown of modern capitalism" and a "strenuous political album that does not lose its sense of humor nor its ability to banger." It aims at gentrification and other aspects of modern urban life lyrically.
