Sloan Information
Sloan is a Canadian rock band that is based in Toronto. The band is originally from Halifax, Nova Scotia. The band’s current lineup consists of Jay Ferguson (bass guitar, vocals, and rhythm guitar), Chris Murphy (drums, bass guitar, and vocals), Patrick Pentland (vocals and lead guitar), and Andrew Scott (rhythm guitar, drums, and vocals). Gregory Macdonald is a band’s touring member, and he is responsible for the keyboards and percussion.
Chris Murphy, Matt Murphy, and Jay Ferguson used to play together in a band called “The Deluxe Boys.” After the band disbanded, Murphy and Ferguson formed a new band called “Kearney Lake Rd.”. They worked for a while, but eventually, Sloan came into formation in January 1991. The newly formed band played its first show on February 8, 1991, at NSCAD. Sloan released its debut full-length studio album entitled “Smeared” on October 1, 1992. The album was published under the record label called Geffen. The album was released in the United States in January 1993.
Sloan played several shows in the summer of 1995. They also did a headlining gig at Edgefest. On June 12, 1996, the band released its second album entitled “One Chord to Another.” It was released on the Murderecords. Some of the notable studio albums that are released so far by the band include Twice Removed (1992), Navy Blues (1998), Between the Bridges (1999), Pretty Together (2001), Action Pact (2003), Never Hear the End of it (2006), Parallel Play (2008), The Double Cross (2011), Commonwealth (2014), and 12 (2018). Sloan has also won a few awards and nominated several times.
