Slim Gambill was an early adopter of rock and roll and jazz who eventually found his way into a country band. The guitarist, a native of Nebraska who was reared in Colorado, is best known for his 13 years of service with country hitmakers Lady A. His fiery licks and signature two-foot-long braids were instrumental in the group's ascension to multi-platinum, award-winning stardom.
However, Gambill has an extensive musical background, as evidenced by his previous albums (FAKE JAZZ & THEME SONGS, LCD) and his upbeat new single ("Up"), and future music (which he has yet to release). Gambill's love of music began when he was eight, and his family relocated to Colorado Springs.
At nine, he started playing guitar on his grandmother's old acoustic. By age 12, he was "obsessed" with the Woodstock documentary he had seen for the first time, transfixed by the legendary performances of artists like Jimi Hendrix, Richie Havens, and Alvin Lee of Ten Years After. In addition, he learned from the classic rock CDs his parents had, from which he learned about modern guitar greats like Stevie Ray Vaughan.
