Silverio Information
Silverio Pérez (July 18, 1948) is a Puerto Rican broadcasting media host, entrepreneur, comedian, writer, and musician. He comes from a family of eleven brothers and sisters, and he is the oldest of them all. The Pérezes are Sephardi Jews of Anusim ancestry. Pérez was a member of different religious singing groups as a youth and the Puerto Rican production of Up with People. He eventually founded the duo Silverio y Roxana, specializing in Puerto Rican music. As a result, he was a guest on a typical Puerto Rican music television program, "Borinquen Canta," alongside newscaster Guillermo José Torres, and later hosted it.
Pérez began his professional career with the singing duo Haciendo Punto en Otro Son, performing four debut concerts in San Juan's "La Tea" nightclub from October 30 to November 2, 1975. Irvin Garcia, Nano Cabrera, Jossy Latorre, and Tony Croatto were among the initial members of this band, which toured all of Puerto Rico and a few other countries while releasing albums and 8-tracks.
Pérez ventured into Puerto Rican television with the Los Rayos Gamma show when the group went on hiatus. He collaborated with Sunshine Logroño, Jacobo Morales, and Horacio Olivo to mock Puerto Rican politics in Los Rayos Gamma. Later, he became the host of the popular show En Serio Con Silverio. He is credited with coining the name chupacabra in 1995, alluding to animals that attack and consume the blood of livestock, particularly goats, in Puerto Rico.
