Shuga Shang Information
Having been born in the nation's capital, Shang and her four siblings were reared by their parents, Hosea and Lillie Green, in the Maryland suburbs. There she first had the opportunity to showcase her voice and ability. Her mother and elder siblings taught her the ins and outs of life.
After being presented to an audience of at least 150 people at New Macedonia Church in Fairmont Height, Maryland, when Shang was only four years old, she became terrified at the sight of so many people and never sang again. But her mother, Kathy, kept putting her and her brothers on stage as "The Greenette Gospel Singers" all over the east coast to spread the Gospel.
As early as the 1940s and 1950s, her grandma Louvenia Carroll was already making a name for herself as a gospel singer, duetting with the influential Pastor Shirley Ceaser before striking out on her own with the Stars of Faith. Until her grandmother's death in the summer of 2001, the two of them traveled the world, sharing the word of God and bringing joy to the hearts of many.
