Shoshana Bean Information
Shoshana E. Bean (September 1, 1977) is an American stage actress, recording artist, singer, and songwriter. She was born in Olympia, Washington. Bean graduated from Beaverton High School in 1995. In 1999, Bean completed his graduation from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music with a B.F.A. in Musical Theatre. Bean was in the 2000 Off-Broadway revival of Godspell in Midtown Manhattan shortly after coming to New York City in 2000.
Bean was on the national tour of Leader of the Pack in 2001. Bean made her Broadway debut in the Tony Award-winning production of Hairspray in 2002 as an original cast member in the character of Shelley, Denizen of Baltimore, which she created. Tracy Turnblad, Velma Von Tussle, and Prudy Pingleton were all understudies for her.
Bean was cast as Elphaba in the Broadway production of the smash-hit musical Wicked in 2004 as a standby for Idina Menzel's Elphaba. Menzel slipped into a trap door and shattered a lower rib on January 8, 2005, a day before the scheduled end of her role as Elphaba. Bean went on to participate in the performance after that. Bean took over as Elphaba full-time on January 11, 2005, and played alongside Jennifer Laura Thompson and then Megan Hilty as Glinda until her final performance on January 8, 2006. Eden Espinosa replaced Elphaba on January 10.
