Sheku Kanneh-Mason Information
Sheku Kanneh-Mason (April 4, 1999) is a British cellist. He was born in Nottingham, England. He and his siblings performed as The Kanneh-Masons on Britain's Got Talent 2015. In May 2016, he took first place in the BBC's Young Musician of the Year competition. Kanneh-Mason, his sister Isata, and his brother Braimah are all members of the Chineke! Orchestra, a group of black and minority ethnic classical musicians created by Chi-chi Nwanoku.
A BBC Four documentary - Young, Gifted, and Classical: The Making of a Maestro, focused on Kanneh-Mason in November 2016. The following month, he was included in BBC Radio 4's Front Row retrospective on the year's biggest prize winners in the arts and entertainment. Kanneh-Mason reportedly gave £3,000 to his alma mater in January 2018 so that ten more students could continue taking cello instruction.
After signing a big recording contract with the classical music label Decca Classics in November 2016, Kanneh-Mason secured a worldwide general management arrangement with the London-based boutique Enticott Music Management in June 2016. In 2017, Kanneh-Mason took the stage at London's Royal Albert Hall for the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA).
