Seong Jin Cho Information
Seong-Jin Cho (May 28, 1994) is a South Korean pianist born in Seoul, South Korea. He started taking piano lessons when he was six years old and performed in front of an audience for the first time at eleven. Before his 2012 move to France, he attended Seoul Arts High School and graduated from the private middle school Yewon, which specialized in art education. He received instruction from Korean professors Park Sook-ryeon and Shin Soo-jung before studying under Michel Béroff at Paris's Conservatoire de Paris.
The International Fryderyk Chopin Competition for Young Pianists (2008) and the Hamamatsu International Piano Competition (2009) were among Cho's many accolades. The Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition (2014) in Tel Aviv and the International Tchaikovsky Competition (2011) in Moscow awarded him the Third Prize. Cho was named first prize at the XVII International Chopin Piano Competition in 2015.
Cho's solo performances have been featured by the Berliner Philharmoniker, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Mariinsky Orchestra, the NHK Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre de Paris, and many other notable orchestras. He frequently works with famous conductors such as Yuri Temirkanov, Valery Gergiev, Gustavo Dudamel, Myung-Whun Chung, Mikhail Pletnev, Vasily Petrenko, and Esa-Pekka Salonen. His recent concert tours, including the United States, Japan, Germany, France, Russia, Poland, and Israel, have taken him worldwide.
