Scrapomatic Information
Paul Olsen and Mike Mattison, natives of the Twin Cities, came together to establish Scrapomatic. Although they learned their craft independently, both artists eventually embraced a roots-based style with an Americana flavor. Both had classical instruction and discovered a shared appreciation for jazz and funk. The Minnesota Music Awards recognized the pair with Best R&B Group and Best Male Vocalist nominations.
Since relocating to Brooklyn, they have played at Carnegie Hall and venues all over New York City. Olsen's primary focus these days is as a composer, producer, and musical director, for which he has won multiple ASCAP awards. As a result of his friendship with Derek Trucks, Mattison has multiple ongoing endeavors, including several bands. In 2003, the two guys put out their debut record under the name Scrapomatic, which was well-received. The Derek Trucks Band and Susan Tedeschi frequently have Scrapomatic as their supporting act.
