Savannah Ghost Pirates Information
Based in Savannah, Georgia, the Savannah Ghost Pirates play minor league ice hockey as professionals in the ECHL. Playing their home games at Enmarket Arena, the squad kicked off the 2022–23 ECHL season. The city of Savannah, Georgia, reportedly reached a deal in January 2021 with Andy Kaufmann, the primary owner of the ECHL's Jacksonville Icemen, to host an expansion franchise at the new Savannah Arena for the 2022-23 season.
Enmarket Arena was scheduled to be finished in January 2022, and the team was the first tenant to be named. The ECHL granted the expansion team's membership on January 27, 2021, so they can start playing in the 2022–23 season. The Savannah Ghost Pirates were officially unveiled on October 27, 2021. The Ghost Pirates of the American Hockey League (AHL) and the National Hockey League (NHL)'s Vegas Golden Knights and its AHL affiliate, the Henderson Silver Knights, announced a one-year affiliation for the 2022-23 season on May 19, 2022.
Also confirmed as the inaugural head coach of Savannah was Rick Bennett, a former NHL player and current head coach of the Union Dutchmen. The squad was assigned to the South Division alongside the following teams: the South Carolina Stingrays, the Orlando Solar Bears, the Greenville Swamp Rabbits, the Jacksonville Icemen, and the Atlanta Gladiators.
