Sarah Shook and the Disarmers Information
Sarah Marie Shook (September 15, 1985) is an American country music singer and songwriter from North Carolina. Shook was born in Rochester in the state of New York. They were homeschooled and raised in a fundamentalist Christian home where music was strictly forbidden; they were only allowed to listen to classical and worship music. They learned themselves piano when Shook was nine years old and acoustic guitar when they were in high school. Shook's family moved around a lot while he was younger. They and their family moved to Garner, North Carolina, when they were 19 years old, in July 2005.
In mid-to late-2013, Shook formed a new band named Sarah Shook & the Disarmers. Eric Peterson on guitar, John Howie Jr. (Two Dollar Pistols, John Howie Jr. & the Rosewood Bluff) on drums, Jason Hendrick on bass violin, and Phil Sullivan on lap steel formed the band as a recording project.
On October 16, 2015, Sarah Shook and the Disarmers debuted their first full-length album, Sidelong, at the Cat's Cradle Back Room in Chapel Hill, NC, with a re-release in 2017. Ian Schreier produced Sidelong at Manifold Recording Studios along the Haw River in North Carolina. In April of 2015, the record was tracked and recorded live. The album was a regional and national hit for the band. In January 2017, she signed with Chicago's Bloodshot Records after signing with Kathie Russell of RedKats Artist Management.
