Sarah McLachlan Information
Sarah Ann McLachlan OC OBC (January 28, 1968) is one of the Canadian singers and songwriters. She is famous for her emotional ballads along with the mezzo-soprano vocal range. McLachlan is from Halifax, Nova Scotia, and was legally adopted by the McLachlan family. She generally plays pop and rock genres along with adult contemporary. She also plays keyboard, guitar, piano, banjo, ukulele, and harp.
She began playing music at the age of four, starting with Ukulele. McLachlan learned classical guitar, voice, and classical piano via a curriculum of The Royal Conservatory of Music. She fronted a short-lived rock band famous as The October Game. McLachlan recorded her first album Touch under a contract with Nettwerk, in 1987.
Some of the other albums by McLachlan are Solace (1991), Fumbling Towards Ecstasy (1993), Surfacing (1997), Afterglow (2003), Wintersong (2006), Laws of Illusion (2010), Shine On (2014), and Wonderland (2016).
McLachlan opened the Sarah McLachlan School of Music in Vancouver. It is a free music school opened in 2011. One of the notable past tours founded and performed by McLachlan is the Lilith Fair tour. She also provided vocals for the Delerium song "Silence," "Love Is," by Stevie Nicks, and a cover of "Sad Lisa" by Cat Stevens along with Phish (rock band).
Till the year 2015, McLachlan has sold around 40 million albums worldwide with her album "Surfacing," the best selling one to date. She won two Grammy Awards and four Juno Awards for this album. In total, McLachlan has been nominated for 26 Juno Awards and was awarded Best Female Pop Vocal Performance in 1997. She was also inducted into Canada's Walk of Fame and the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, along with several other honors and awards.
