Sammy Kershaw Information
Sammy Kershaw (February 24, 1958) is an American country music artist born in Kaplan, Louisiana. He received his first guitar from his grandfather when he was eleven. But that year, his father passed away, and Sammy had to start working odd jobs during the day and playing roadhouses at night so he could provide for his family. It was in Acadiana that he first performed alongside the legendary J.B. Pere. Kershaw began performing in honky-tonks and beer bars when he was 12. He met his lifelong hero, George Jones when he was 14.
I Want My Money Back was Kershaw's third studio album, released in 2003 under the Audium Entertainment label. Even though the album's title track peaked at No. 33, the second single, "I've Never Been Anywhere," failed to reach the Top 40. Last but not least, the uncharted single "Beer, Bait & Ammo" was written and performed by Kevin Fowler on his self-titled first album in 2000; Mark Chesnutt covered the song for his 2004 album Savin' the Honky Tonk.
The Louisiana Songwriters Association Hall of Fame and the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame inducted Sammy Kershaw in 2008 and 2010, respectively, for his distinguished career. Released in late 2008 on the Boomerville/Big Hit label, "Real People" was Kershaw's first single in two years. The single, though, was not a hit with the public. On August 31, 2010, he released his tenth studio album, Better Than I Used to Be.
