Samantha Fish Information
Samantha Fish is a guitarist, singer, and songwriter from Kansas City, Missouri. Her music is defined as blues and root rock. Fish started out playing the drums at a young age; when she turned 15, Fish switched to the guitar. Her mother was an instructor in a local church choir, and her father used to play the guitar. Fish initially heard the recordings of Bonnie Raitt and Stevie Ray Vaughan, and later, she was influenced by the music of Tom Petty and The Rolling Stones. Listening to the Stones' album 'Sticky Fingers' was an influential moment for Fish.
Fish frequented the Knuckleheads Saloon to listen to touring blues artists regularly. When she turned 18, Fish began to join in with the singers and bands at Knuckleheads. She officially started her career in 2009 when she recorded and produced Live Bait. This album attracted a talent company that recommended her to Ruf Records. The label quickly put together a record with Fish and two other female blues artists, Cassie Taylor and Dani Wilde. This project was named Girls with Guitars, and it toured on the Ruf Records 2011 Blues Caravan in the U.S. and Europe.
Fish recorded Runaway in 2011 with the help of her mentor Mike Zito. The album ended up winning the Blues Music Award for Best New Artist in 2012. She also appeared on Devon Allman's 2013 album Turquoise. Some of her other notable albums are Black Wind Howlin', The Healers (CD/DVD), Chills & Fever, and Kill or Be Kind.
Fish has won many awards throughout her career, including the 2016 Independent Blues Awards, 2018 Annual Living Blues Awards, and 2018 Best of the Beat Award.
