Sam Smith (May 19, 1992) is an English singer and songwriter born in London, England. Smith attended St. Mary's Catholic School in Bishop's Stortford, where he participated in the Bishop's Stortford Junior Operatics (now Bishops Stortford Musical Theatre Society). He also participated in the Cantate Youth Choir while studying, singing, and songwriting with jazz pianist Joanna Eden. Smith performed in a musical incorporating the music of Neil Sedaka with Youth Music Theatre UK in 2007. They were jazz musicians first before making the transition to the theater world. S
Smith announced his famous studio album, To Die For at the time, to be released on May 1, 2020. The announcement was made on February 13. Smith stated on March 30 that the team would be postponing the release of their third album and making several adjustments to the record track list and title as they continued to work on it in light of the ongoing consequences of the pandemic. However, they did confirm that a release was still planned for 2020.
April 16 saw the release of "I'm Ready," a major collaboration with American artist Demi Lovato that has since done well in the top 40 of numerous nations' singles charts. On July 6, Smith unveiled his "Fix You" version by Coldplay. The singer played the song at the iHeartRadio Living Room Series in May. While Smith and Petras' "Unholy" won the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance Grammy in 2023, the award wasn't announced until February.
