Sacramento Choral Society Information
The Sacramento Choral Society and Orchestra (SCSO) is a non-profit organization registered under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Anyone interested in singing in the chorus must first audition. Dr. Donald Kendrick, founder, and music director of the SCSO, conducts a full professional orchestra.
During the SCSO's inaugural 1996–1997 season, the orchestra and choir played works such as Dvorak's Requiem, "The Star-Spangled Banner," and Vaughan Williams' Dona Nobis Pacem. The goals of the SCSO have been steadily rising over the years. The SCSO first played at the legendary Carnegie Hall in 2003, where they performed Carl Orff's Carmina Burana.
In 2006, the SCSO went on a tour to China with CSUS Choral Music Program members. Sacramento's twin city of Jinan, sister city Tianjin, and Xian have all hosted concerts. The opportunity to play on the Great Wall was a tremendous thrill for the SCSO.
In 2017, the SCSO went on a tour of the Baltic countries, where they gave concerts in Latvia, Finland, and Estonia. Countries like France, Croatia, Slovenia, and the United Kingdom have all hosted performances by the SCSO.
