Rockapella Information
Rockapella is an American Acappella musical group that originated from NYC in 1986. The group only plays Acappella and took its name from an amalgam of “rock” along with “Acappella.” The band’s current lineup consists of Scott Leonard - High Tenor, Jeff Thacher - Vocal Percussion, Calvin Jones – Tenor, Bryant Vance – Bass, and Jose Rosario – Tenor. Some of the supporting musicians are John K. Brown, Ryan Chappelle, and George Baldi III.
The group is well-known for singing Acappella covers of pop and rock songs along with original vocal music. Rockapella is best known for its role as a vocal house band, working as a resident troupe on the “Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego?,” the PBS children’s geography game show. The group has released 19 albums in both the US and Japan, along with three compilation albums.
Rockapella performs its annual tour entitled “A Rockapella Holiday,” which began in 2003. Some of their notable studio albums are A Rockapella Holiday, Live In Japan, and Don’t Tell Me You Do. Rockapella also released many hit songs used on-screen for Gnomeo and Juliet - feature film trailer, Folgers coffee, and Budweiser commercials.
Rockapella has appeared in several TV shows so far, such as Comic Strip Live (1989), Chez Whoopi (1991), The Biggest Little Ticket (1993), and The 1999 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
