Robbie Fulks Information
Robert "Robbie" Fulks (March 25, 1963) is an American instrumentalist and alternative country singer-songwriter from York, Pennsylvania. While he grew up in the Piedmont region of North Carolina, he currently resides in Chicago, Illinois. Fulks music is defined as Neo-traditionalist country, Bluegrass, and Alternative country. He was exposed to music with his family's help, as everyone used to play a different instrument. He began playing banjo at the age of 6 and guitar at the age of 11. Fulks went to Carolina Friends School and later attended Columbia College, Columbia University.
During his time at Columbia University, Fulks often played at Gerdes Folk City and other locations scattered across the Greenwich Village. He soon dropped out of college and relocated to Chicago in 1983. Fulks joined the Special Consensus Bluegrass Band and performed in the musical Woody Guthrie's American Song in the early 1990s. He worked as a country songwriter, mainly for Music Row publisher API, for four years.
Country Love Songs was the solo debut album by Fulks that was released in 1996. Some of his other notable studio albums are 1997: South Mouth, 1998: Let's Kill Saturday Night, 2000: The Very Best of Robbie Fulks, 2001: Couples in Trouble, 2001: 13 Hillbilly Giants, 2004: Live at Double Door 1/16/04, 2010: Happy: Robbie Fulks Plays the Music of Michael Jackson, and 2013: Gone Away Backward.
Fulks earned two Grammy nominations in Best Folk Album 2016 and Best American Roots Song 2016. He has worked with a few labels throughout his career, including Boondoggle Records and Yep Roc Records.
