Riley Downing is an American artist. Riley Downing's ability to weave gripping, evocative narratives inside soundscapes that weave together country, blues, folk, r&b, bluegrass, rock, soul, and whatever else catches his ear is difficult to shake once you hear it.
Downing returned to Missouri, assisting his brother with his plumbing company and generally playing "primarily for old friends and old dogs and whatever other critters were within range," he says. Downing and his Deslondes bandmate, John James Tourville, decided to cooperate and release a 45 rpm single at some point.
As a result, Downing and John James (that's JJ to you) launched a long-distance collaboration, enlisting the help of longstanding Deslondes producer Andrija Tokic (that's Dre to you). During the months of lockdown, the three worked out songwriting, arrangement, and production ideas by sending tapes back and forth from their different residences — Downing in Missouri, JJ in North Carolina, and Dre in Nashville.
