Riders in the Sky Information
Riders in the Sky is a Western comedy and music group founded in 1977 and originated from Nashville, TN. The group plays children's music, Country, and Western swing. The first performance delivered by Riders in the Sky was on November 11, 1977, at Herr Harry's Frank N' Steins. Since then, the band has made more than 8,000 live appearances. The band's current lineup consists of "Ranger Doug" Green – Guitar, Vocals; Fred LaBour – Bass, Vocals; "Woody Paul" Chrisman – Fiddle, Vocals; and Joey Miskulin – Accordion, Vocals. "Windy Bill" Collins and Tumbleweed Tommy" Goldsmith are the two former members of the group.
Riders in the Sky have released more than 40 full-length albums so far. Some of the notable albums are Three on the Trail, Best of the West, The Cowboy Way, Merry Christmas from Harmony Ranch, Always Drink Upstream from the Herd, Public Cowboy #1: The Music of Gene Autry, and Ridin' the Tweetsie Railroad. The band is also praised for its family-friendly style that appeals to children as well.
Riders in the Sky have appeared in many films and television series such as Twilight Theater, Tumbleweed Theater, Christmas The Cowboy Way, A Riders In The Sky Christmas, Riders Radio Theater: The Television Show, Country Music: The Spirit of America, Stanley's Dinosaur Round-Up, and Music City U.S.A. The band members have also written a book named It's the Cowboy Way!: The Amazing True Adventures of Riders in the Sky in 2003.
Riders in the Sky have won two Grammy Awards and were named Western Music Group of the Year in 2006 during the Academy of Western Artists.
