Alexander James O'Connor (May 4, 1998), also known as Rex Orange County, is an English singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. Zoë Jones of NPR Music has said of O'Connor's songs, "a bright mix of hip-hop, jazz, and bedroom pop." At sixteen, teaching himself how to create his music, he put his first album, Bcos U Will Never Be Free (2015), free of charge on Bandcamp and Soundcloud.
O'Connor then released his second studio album, Apricot Princess (2017), along with many solo songs between 2016 and 2017, including the platinum-certified singles "Sunflower" and "Best Friend." Pony (2019), O'Connor's third studio album, lyrically explores more intimate subjects like human feeling and experiments with several genres, drawing on Rising, which peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard 200; the record became his first to reach there.
Topping in the UK, his fourth studio album, Who Cares (2022), also peaked at No.5 on the Billboard 200. O'Connor revealed his fifth studio album, The Alexander Technique, on July 9, 2024, following initial teasers one week earlier on X. O'Connor debuted two new songs, "Alexander" and "Guitar Song," on July 18, 2024, then unveiled the 16-song tracklist for the upcoming album, scheduled for September 6, 2024.
