Red Molly Information
Red Molly is a folk trio that originated from New York in 2004. The trio consists of Abbie Gardner (vocals, guitar, Dobro, lap steel guitar), Laurie MacAllister (vocals, bass), and Molly Venter (vocals, guitar). The music of the band is defined as bluegrass and folk. Carolann Solebello is a past member of the Red Molly. The group members are known for performing original works composed by them and other notable songwriters. This includes Mark Erelli, Jake Armerding, Hank Williams, Gillian Welch, Richard Thompson, Ryan Adams, and Amy Speace.
Red Molly’s fans call themselves “Redheads.” The trio was created late one night at the famous Falcon Ridge Folk Festival. The group members took their name from a character in the song “1952 Vincent Black Lightning” by Richard Thompson. In early 2006, Red Molly’s career started to take off. They earned top votes in the 2006 Falcon Ridge Folk Festival. WUMB in Boston named the trio as Top New Artist of the Year. Their album entitled Never Been to Vegas was also picked as one of their Top Albums of 2006.
Red Molly toured with Pat Wictor and Ellis, and some other winners of the Falcon Ridge Emerging Artist showcase in 2007. The two EPs released by the trio so far are 2005: Red Molly (4 song EP) and 2018: One for All & All for One (6 song EP). Never Been To Vegas is the only Live Album by the group. Some of its notable albums are James 2010, The Red Album 2014, and Light in the Sky 2011.
