Ray Benson Information
Ray Benson is an American singer, songwriter, producer, actor, and voice actor. He is best-known being as the frontman of the Western swing band called, Asleep at the Wheel. He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Benson’s production credits include Carolyn Wonderland, James Hand, Aaron Watson, Suzy Bogguss, and Dale Watson. He has also produced single tracks for Vince Gill, Merle Haggard, Trace Adkins, Pam Tillis, Brad Paisley, Aaron Neville, and Willie Nelson. Benson released his debut solo album entitled Beyond Time in 2003. He released two more albums, including A Little Piece (January 21, 2014) and Songs from a Stolen Spring (October 18, 2014).
Benson is also known as the Rhythm and Blues Foundation’s founding member who raises money to help aging R&B artists. He has been a host of the Texas Music Scene TV Show. As a voice actor and actor, he has appeared in a few films throughout his career, such as Why Christmas Trees Aren’t Perfect (1990), Never Leave Nevada (1990), and Wild Texas Wind (1991).
Throughout his career, Ray Benson has been presented with numerous awards. He has received the 16th Annual Midsouth Regional Emmy Award for making “A Ride with Bob.” In 2002, Benson was also inducted into the Austin Music Hall of Fame. In 1996, he was also given The Texas Music Association Lifetime Achievement Award. He has earned nine Grammy Awards in the four different decades of his career. That’s why for the last forty years, Ray Benson has been one of the strongest names in Country Music.
