Raul Midon Information
Raul Midon (March 14, 1966) is an American guitarist, singer, and songwriter. He was born in Embudo, New Mexico. At the age of four, when Midon's father first showed him how to play the drum, the rhythm of music became an essential part of his life. Midon picked up the guitar in his final two years of high school in 1984, participating in instructional activities at a school for the blind. Later, Midon enrolled in the University of Miami, a school he chose partly because of its jazz studies program. In 1990, he earned a degree from the University of Miami.
Midon sang in the studio with Latin superstars like Shakira, Alejandro Sanz, Julio Iglesias, and Jose Feliciano at the beginning of his career. He left his tour with Shakira to focus on his solo career in New York. He collaborated with Little Louie Vega, a New York City-based DJ and record producer. Under the moniker Elements of Life, he collaborated with Vega and his production crew to create several original compositions, including "Cerca De Mi." During 2003 and 2004, the band, fronted by Vega, toured Europe, Japan, and Australia.
Arif Mardin, owner of Manhattan Records, signed Midón. Mardin's long career began with the signing of Midon. State of Mind (2005) was Midon's first studio album, and Mardin and his son Joe produced it. One of his musical influences, Stevie Wonder, had a guest appearance on the album, as did Jason Mraz, and a song honoring Donny Hathaway was titled "Sittin' in the Middle."
