Rapid City Rush Information
The Monument is the home ice arena of the Rapid City Rush, an ECHL professional ice hockey club from Rapid City, South Dakota. The Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League have the Rush as a minor affiliate. Rapid City's Central Hockey League expansion franchise, which debuted in the 2008–09 season, was announced on June 2, 2007. Two months later, the club installed Joe Ferras as head coach and hockey operations director and Jason Rent as general manager.
After Barry Peterson left, Spire Sports + Entertainment's Jeff Dickerson and T.J. Puchyr became the new owners of the Rush, as announced on January 11, 2019. The majority owner, Scott Mueller, was still there. The Rush's affiliation with the Arizona Coyotes and the Tucson Roadrunners began on July 24, 2019, and continued for two years. The federal government began investigating allegations of embezzlement by the team's business manager in October 2019.
After the former business manager was convicted and pled guilty to embezzlement charges, Spire, now known as Spire Hockey, became the team's sole owner in May 2020. Sentenced to three years in prison and ordered to pay $1 million in restitution, the former team finance manager was convicted of embezzling nearly $700,000 from the organization from 2010 to 2018. For the 2022–23 season, the Rush and the Calgary Flames came to an affiliation agreement on August 25, 2022.
