Randy Edelman (June 10, 1947) is an American composer, producer, and musician. He was born in Paterson, New Jersey. He started in the music industry as a member of the pit orchestras on Broadway. He went on to produce albums, including songs that were covered by such legendary artists as The Carpenters, Barry Manilow, and Dionne Warwick. He made his name in comedic roles.
Among his many accolades are two Golden Globe Award nominations, a BAFTA Award nomination, and twelve BMI Award nominations. In 2004, the University of Cincinnati awarded Edelman an honorary doctorate in the fine arts. After studying piano at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, he joined Broadway orchestras in New York. He released several solo albums, with songs covered by artists like The Carpenters and Barry Manilow.
One of his earliest film compositions was for Executive Action, a 1973 film that proposed a conspiracy theory about the 1963 killing of John F. Kennedy. During the mid-1980s, Edelman composed the theme song for the hit television series MacGyver, starring Richard Dean Anderson, and scored other episodes. 2003, Edelman received the Richard Kirk Award at the BMI Film & TV Awards.
