Rachel Baiman is an American fiddler, singer, and songwriter. She was born in Oak Park, Illinois. Her parents used to take her to the Ethical Humanist Society of Greater Chicago meetings when she was younger. She relocated to Nashville when she was 18 years old to attend Vanderbilt University and worked various odd jobs. At age 17, she won the Illinois State Fiddle Championship.
Baiman is one of the co-founders of Folk Fights Back, a national organization run by musicians that organizes benefit shows and public awareness campaigns in opposition to the Trump administration. She also performs with Christian Sedelmyer in the violin duo 10 String Symphony. She is wed to Australian-born fiddler George Jackson, who resides in Nashville. Producing her 2017 album Shame was Andrew Marlin of Mandolin Orange. According to Baiman, contemporary songwriters like Courtney Barnett and traditional musicians like John Hartford influence her songwriting.
