ProMusica Chamber Orchestra Information
ProMusica is a chamber orchestra comprised of 37 artists from throughout the United States who are reinventing what it means to be a chamber orchestra. Our mission is to engage, inspire, and connect individuals to the world around them via the joy of ProMusica, led by Music Director David Danzmayr and Creative Partner, famous violinist Vadim Gluzman. With a strong commitment to new pieces, commissions, and premieres, the orchestra upholds classical traditions while championing the contemporary.
The co-founders, Timothy Russell and Richard Early founded the orchestra in 1979 because they believed that great cities need great orchestras. ProMusica has been committed to three tactics for advancing music since its inception: performing, educating, and commissioning new works. These important activities and the goal of providing high-quality opportunities for musicians and listeners are still at the heart of ProMusica today.
ProMusica's concerts are traditional and innovative, presenting music in ways that few orchestras can. We have commissioned 68 pieces and programmed over 120 world and regional debuts by composers, including Pulitzer Prize-winner Kevin Puts and others.
ProMusica has garnered eight ASCAP awards for innovative programming and accolades from the Greater Columbus Arts Council and the Columbus Jewish Foundation. The orchestra was named a recipient of The Columbus Performing Arts Prize in 2015, 2016, and 2018. This prestigious award honors outstanding artistic directors of Columbus' performing arts groups and their objectives for creative advancement.
