Prateek Kuhad (March 3, 1990) is an Indian singer, musician, and songwriter. He was born in Jaipur, Rajasthan. He began writing songs and playing guitar in his late teens. He graduated high school at the Maharaja Sawai Man Singh Vidyalaya in Jaipur. He then attended New York University, majoring in mathematics and economics, before relocating to Delhi to focus solely on his musical career.
After finishing up at New York University, he returned to his home country of India and dropped a couple of EPs before releasing his full-length debut. He also inked a publishing deal with Cutcraft Music, based out of the City of Angels. Elliott Smith's songs profoundly impacted Kuhad. After hearing Bob Dylan and Woody Guthrie, he moved on to other singer-songwriters like Laura Marling and Fleet Foxes. He was moved to practice guitar more and begin writing songs after listening to these performers. These things eventually became his primary inspirations.
Kuhad has been writing in English and Hindi since he first started using those languages for communication. Because of this, he grew up listening primarily to Indian pop and Bollywood and very infrequently to Western music due to the lack of internet access. Sometimes at UP, he was reportedly influenced by a young man with the same name, whose singing abilities were exceptional. He, too, took motivation from Lucky Ali.
