The Holocaust denial movement in the early 2000s inspired a fresh and dramatic theatrical production. Paul Grellong has authored the stage drama Power of the Sail. This innovative and powerful stage show will premiere in 2022 at the Geffen Playhouse, and it will explore ideas related to the influence of hate speech and how it can spread. Power of the Sail was made possible thanks to the Geffen New Play Development Program.
This initiative aims to help playwrights produce theatrical productions of their works. Paul Grellong, a 2004 finalist in the Herrick Theater Playwrights Competition and a Brown University graduate, has written many plays. He started Power of the Sail in 2002 but didn't finish it until 2017 because of how timely the subject is.
A white nationalist is invited to speak at a Harvard University conference. The protagonist of the play, Charles Nichols, is a professor at Harvard, and he selected the keynote speaker. Charles has his plans for this guest lecturer, even as the university is in an uproar. Power of the Sail features an inspiring narrative on the importance of speaking up for the rights of others.
